Progress in the school despite troubles in Haiti

We are so grateful to all who responded to our request for funding for four new sewing machines, sewing kits, and additional supplies.  They were shipped to Haiti in February, and we now have a working machine for each student.  Two additional shipments of supplies went out in May, and we have been waiting for the first to be released from customs.

The sad news is that rioting in Haiti shut the country down in February and our students were unable to attend the program for two weeks.  We also chose to cancel our April trip to the project due to the U.S State Department issuing a Do Not Travel Level 4 advisory. We are hoping that things will calm down and we will be able to return in November when our first class of students graduates.

One of the items that we shipped in May was a package of country of origin and care labels for products the students have made for sale, including backpacks.  These items have been waiting for labels in order to be shipped to the states, and we are hoping to finally be able to fulfill orders that have been waiting to be shipped for months.  When this happens we will be able to add products made in Haiti to our E-commerce shop.

When our students graduate, we will be gifting each of them with a treadle sewing machine.  As we wait for products made by our students, we are offering items made here in the states for sale.  Proceeds from these products will be used to help purchase the treadle machines.  We are also accepting donations for these machines, which will be purchased in Haiti for $213 each.

We appreciate your prayers for peace and prosperity in Haiti, and for safety for our students and teachers, and for our team when we are able to return.  We are greatly blessed and honored to serve these women.
